QuiltPilot is a free quilting calculator site, built to answer one question before cutting: how much fabric do you really need.
What QuiltPilot is
QuiltPilot is a site of free quilting calculators and fabric tools. There is no sign-up, and the calculators run in your browser, so you can work out a number at the cutting table and use it straight away.
Every piece counts. Every calculation matters.
What it covers
QuiltPilot covers four groups of quilting work: finishing, fabric and yardage, piecing, and size and cost. Together the site holds 29 calculators and 29 guides, plus a printable size chart.
Use the All Calculators page to see every calculator in one place, or start from a group: Finishing, Fabric and Yardage, Piecing, or Size and Cost. Each calculator has its own guide, and all guides are listed on the Guides page. The Printable Quilt Size Chart is there to print and keep at the cutting table.
How the calculators work
Each calculator page states its own method, so you can check the result, not just trust it. Finished sizes, cut sizes, seam allowances, and the rounding up to buy are written on the page, next to the result, with a worked example and a chart for common sizes.
For example, a yardage result shows the exact yardage and the yardage to buy, rounded up, so you know what the number means before you buy fabric. A piecing result shows the cut size and the method it came from, so you know which method the cut size belongs to.
What QuiltPilot is not
QuiltPilot is not a shop, not a pattern store, and not a quilting course. It does not sell fabric, patterns, or finished quilts.
It is also not a substitute for measuring your own bed, fabric, or quilt top. Actual mattresses, fabric widths, and quilt tops vary, so a preset size is a starting point, and your own measurement is the one to trust when it differs. Each calculator page says which inputs are yours to measure and which values are presets.
